Applications are invited for the following open positions in Integrated Material Systems Lab in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at The Ohio State University (OSU).

  1. Postdoctoral Research Associate (one)
  2. Graduate Research Assistants (two)

The research activities of Integrated Systems Lab are focused on electroactive and chemically active materials (polymeric, bioderived, etc.,). Researchers in this lab work on novel fabrication and characterization methods, multiphysics modeling and system level modeling constructs for various active material systems. The group currently has three graduate students, one undergraduate student and one visiting scholar.

Required qualifications and description of responsibilities for the openings are as follows.

Postdoctoral Research Associate

This candidate is anticipated to work in the area of electroactive nanoporous materials under the direction of Dr. Sundaresan. Qualifying candidate for this position is expected to be familiar with a few of the following – electrochemical techniques, ion transport through nanopores, mechanics of thin-polymeric membranes and multiphysics modeling. Familiarity with electron optics-based nanofabrication and characterization methods and experience in using SEM, TEM and FIB equipment will be an added advantage to qualify for this position. Experience in carrying out experiments in the lab is a must.

Candidates who have earned a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related areas, and those expecting to graduate in Spring 2013 are invited to apply for this position. Compensation and other benefits will be competitive. This position is for one year and the candidate will have the option to continue for another year.

Graduate Research Assistants

Candidates planning to purse a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering at The Ohio State University and interested in a career in Smart Materials are encouraged to apply for this position. Demonstration of academic excellence in undergraduate (or) graduate study is preferred.  Familiarity with undergraduate coursework in Strength of Materials, System Dynamics, Control Engineering and Smart Materials is expected.

Students currently not enrolled in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering graduate program at OSU will be required to apply to the program.

Application instructions

Candidates that are interested in these openings should send their CV (with complete contact information for a minimum of three references) to sundaresan.19@osu.edu. Applicants to the postdoctoral position are encouraged to send a copy of their most recent (or) best publication.
