Coupled Mechanics of Active Nanoporous Membrane

Sundaresan’s EAGER award will investigate coupled transport processes in an active nanoporous membrane resulting from cyclic mechanical deformation.  This research will investigate the applicability of elastic deformation of nanopores for fluid transport and mimic the functionality of transport through biological channels. The proposed concept, if successful, will lead to a new class of membranes that can be designed to separate molecules through controlled operation.
